What is The Achieve Mint?
The Achieve Mint started in 2020 with just 3 coins – One Year Sober, Two Years Sober and Three Years Sober – and one goal: to make modern, colorful sobriety coins that people would be proud to buy for themselves or as a gift for a loved one. A coin so beautiful and meaningful that they would never get tired of carrying it around or looking at it on their desk or bookshelf as a powerful reminder of what they’ve achieved.
Fast forward to today, and after three years of consistent, steady growth and 4000+ coins sold, there are now 25+ coins for sale – from One Month Sober all the way through to 15 Years Sober (with more coming every month) – and The Achieve Mint Etsy store has 650+ 5-star reviews and a strong community of good vibes from people all across the world celebrating their – or their friend’s and family’s – “soberversary” in style.
Why sobriety coins?
Almost everytime I saw my grandfather when I was little – that's him on the right rocking those sunglasses (I'm the little guy in the red) – he would have a new coin for me. Even though I've never been much for collecting – it's the minimalist in me – there was always something about them I was drawn to.
Fast forward a few years to the present day and my wife (Stacey) and I (Adam) are carrying on my grandfather's love of coins but with a twist.
January 1, 2019, I was one year sober and wanted to quietly celebrate. So I went on Amazon and bought a simple AA coin.
But by January 1, 2020 – after having the AA coin on my desk all year – I decided for my second year soberversary that I wanted something that was both nicer to look at and meant a bit more to me.
(I didn’t use AA to get sober, and while I’m a spiritual person I’m not really religious, so I was looking for something that just, overall, fit me a little bit better.)
To my surprise, I couldn’t find anything that fit that description – a beautifully designed and minted, meaningful, non-AA, non-religious sobriety coin – on Amazon or anywhere else online.
So, in 2020, I designed, sourced, and minted my own sobriety coins and started The Achieve Mint!
Meaning in every coin
Like life, sobriety is always a journey and a work in progress, and as such every coin in the current “nature series” of The Achieve Mint sobriety coins has some kind of path or forward momentum implied in its design.
And whether climbing a mountain, crossing a bridge, watching the sun or moon reflected on the water, or just observing nature, I try and communicate the peace and acceptance that comes with sobriety in every coin.
In addition, the back of every coin has a meaningful quote from a diverse set of voices about either sobriety, overcoming challenges, or just life itself. Sources include Martin Luther King, Jr, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Allen Carr, Oprah Winfrey, and many more.
Achievement coins are a fun, tangible way to celebrate life's achievements.
